This week, however, there are some silver linings – the news that young shoppers still value auto dealerships will be music to the ears of many. Monterey Car Week Shows Off the Best Luxury Vehicles 

 

Car aficionados from around the world descended on Pebble Beach this past week for the annual Monterey Car Week. Famous for its showcase of the world’s top luxury vehicles, this year was no exception. As reported by CBS San Francisco, one of the most impressive cars on display was the Bugatti Chiron Sky View, the first production sports car in the world. The car can go from 0-60 in just 2.4 seconds and boasts a top speed of 261 mph. Priced at over $3 million, it’s beyond the wildest dreams of most car owners, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be appreciated in a show setting.  

Also on display was the SF90 Stradale, Ferrari’s first plug-in hybrid vehicle. Designed to celebrate the carmaker’s 90th birthday, that car can be driven in full-electric mode or switched to gas power to enjoy the classic Ferrari experience. As always, a host of classic cars were also on display in the much-loved concours d’elegance, including a 1913 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost and a 1965 Lamborghini 3500 GTZ Zagato Coupe.  
 

Young Car Buyers Still Prefer Brick and Mortar Stores 

 

Many auto dealers feared that the unstoppable march of the internet would mean an end to face-to-face car sales, but a new study by Urban Science/Harris poll, as reported by Auto News. The survey asked some 2,000 respondents about their car-buying habits, and it emerged that dealerships are still very much as the forefront of buyers’ minds as they shop. The report showed that 81% trust the input of franchise dealership staff when selecting a new vehicle, and 84% said the prices on offer at a dealership also influenced their decision. Younger shoppers visit more dealerships in their selection process than their older counterparts – 3.8 stores for younger millennials compared to 2.1 for baby boomers. This shows that car buyers develop brand loyalties over time that become harder to shake – giving dealers an opportunity to develop long-lasting relationships with young people about to purchase their first or second vehicle.    
 

Audi’s Flagship EV Wins Top Safety Award 

 

German carmaker Audi is celebrating this week after it’s flagship E-Tron SUV electric vehicle became the first fully electric car to win the 2019 Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). As reported by Robb Report, the car received ‘good’ ratings across the board of tests, as well as a superior score for crash prevention. The car starts at $75,000 and the award is a good omen for the company, which is planning to release several other fully electric models over the coming years.   
 

Subaru Celebrates Longevity with a New Ad Campaign 

 

Subaru owners are proud of the staying power of their cars – with 97% of models still on the road after being driven for 10 years according to the company. That’s the hook of a new Subaru ad campaign that uses the story of an adventurous dog to celebrate the cars that just keep on keeping on. As reported by Auto News, the ad campaign features a dog that keeps escaping from its home over the years to visit a nearby farm – as his loving owner drives to collect it in the exact same Crosstrek model as the years pass.
