Talking Small Businesses, Marketing, and More with One of Our Clients

As Small Business Saturday approaches, we’re thankful for the local businesses we work with across the U.S., and we wanted to highlight a few of them. 

We talked with Paula Dobbs, the Director of Marketing and Communications for Landmark Christian School in Fairburn and Peachtree City, Georgia, about her school, her role, and why local businesses are important to her.

Hi, Paula! Thanks so much for talking with us. Tell us a little bit about Landmark Christian School.

Landmark Christian School is ranked one of the top independent and accredited private schools in Georgia with an elementary, middle, and high school campus south of metro Atlanta in Fairburn, and an elementary school in Peachtree City, Georgia. With more than 1,055 students, we are experiencing record enrollment.

Opened in 1989, our private, independent school has developed a reputation for an exceptional education and a personalized approach. Through small class sizes and diverse course offerings, Landmark Christian helps students reach their full potential as they matriculate through elementary, middle, and high school. Abundant electives such as TED, aviation, film, music, digital recording, STEM, engineering, robotics, graphic design, fashion design, business and entrepreneurship, leadership, and more help students determine their interests and develop their passions. Landmark Christian inspires students to go beyond the classroom and provides them with real-world experiences and internships.

At Landmark, engaging academics, Christian values, and immense opportunity combine to create an exceptional education and exceptional students and graduates. It's a level of accomplishment that has grabbed the attention of the nation's best colleges and universities. One hundred percent of our graduates attend college, and as a testament to their excellence and preparation, they earn scholarships at levels few schools can match. The 70 graduates in the Class of 2019 amassed $9.4 million dollars in scholarships not including the HOPE, GTEG, or Zell Miller Scholarship. 

Landmark Christian focuses on personalized learning – meaning we intentionally seek out the gifts in each child and help develop those talents to their full potential.

That’s great! Tell us a little bit about your day-to-day.

I am Director of Marketing and Communications, and my role is to develop and implement the strategic marketing and communications plan for the school. This plan includes defining and implementing the corporate message; defining, marketing, and protecting the brand and logo; and determining and developing all of the marketing tools and pathways for Landmark to establish a strong brand, and to attract and retain enrollment and donors. I also am responsible for all communications to our constituents including email correspondence, the website, weekly newsletters, press releases, and more.

That sounds like a challenging, yet rewarding, job! What do you love most about it?

Landmark Christian School is a wonderful place to receive an education and to work. It is family. It is a place where Christian values are lived out every day. Landmark has the privilege to partner with parents to equip children to impact the world for Jesus Christ. Every student is known, valued, and loved. I am grateful to be a part of the journey. 

What are some of your challenges?

The top challenge in Marketing and Communications is the lack of personnel. We are a busy office of two-and-a-half people working to produce works of excellence to a large client base. We have an aggressive strategy and want to do more with more. 

That would definitely be challenging. How has partnering with our team helped with some of these challenges?

LOCALiQ has impressed me with their customer service. I am especially thankful for our local rep, Michelle Casterline. She responds quickly and works eagerly to answer questions, find solutions, adjust our services when needed, and keep me informed. 

We love to hear that! Speaking of things we love: Tell me about your local community and how Landmark plays a part in it.

We are a vital and active part of the community, receiving support and giving support. We want to contribute to the well-being of the community and create a thriving place to live, work, and play. Our families make up the community. The world becomes smaller every day and kindness, collaboration, and economics begin at home. One of the Landmark core values is to serve others. Each level of our school intentionally serves our community through areas such as food and need drives, community beautification, providing a community library and community garden, working with the local public schools to serve their students who have needs, and other community mission work. 

What about shopping small in your community?

I personally participate in Small Business Saturday. We prefer to support local businesses. We believe in supporting our neighbors, many of them our own families. We believe in building our communities inside out. 

Local businesses are the lifeblood of our community. When they are healthy, our community is healthy. They are first line in attracting other businesses and consumers to our community.
