TikTok has 150 million users in the United States alone. With that kind of user base, there are countless opportunities to share new content with your audience. What is a repost on TikTok?

TikTok’s repost feature allows users to share videos created by other brands and themselves. Reposts give creators the opportunity to amplify posts their audiences will be interested in while seamlessly crediting the previous poster.

The videos you repost appear on your friend’s For You pages. The original poster’s username will still be visible, but your audience will see a banner that says “X reposted.”

Why repost on TikTok

Between the ease of reposting TikTok videos and the potential benefit to your brand’s visibility, it’s hard not to see why reposting on TikTok is to your advantage.

Show up in people’s feeds

TikTok has a fast pace. There are more and more creators every day posting new videos. It’s hard to post on TikTok often enough. Instead of only creating new videos, make reposting content a pillar of your social media strategy. You’ll be able to consistently show up in people’s feeds without burning through your own creativity, time, and props.

Generate educational content

20% of TikTok users use the platform to learn something new, according to Thinkific’s 2023 Digital Learning Trends report. Become known as a smart brand at the cutting edge of industry trends by sharing educational videos that are relevant to your audience’s interests. That could range from serious to fun like:

  • How new legislation is affecting your industry
  • DIY videos on how to use tools and new technology
  • Short videos with quick tips

The types of educational content you share will depend on what your brand does and what your audience wants to learn more about.

Establish trust with your audience

Reposting videos shows how secure your brand is and allows you to connect with your audience in a different way. Sharing content from community members and other brands shows that you value other people’s opinions. Be inclusive by sharing videos from creators with different backgrounds.

Additionally, you should share videos to curate social proof. That could be testimonials from customers, unboxing videos, or creative videos showing different ways to use your product.

Your followers will learn more about your brand, and they will trust the opinions of people who have interacted with you.

Build relationships with other brands and creators

When you repost another brand’s video, you put your stamp of approval on it. You’re showing that you find that TikTok video valuable enough to share with your audience. Since reposting videos benefits the original creator, they will be grateful for your reposts.

Sharing content from other creators helps build relationships with them. They may check out your TikTok account and return the favor. It’s even possible that reposting videos will lead to new collaborations with other brands!

Revive old content by reposting it

Why put all that work into creating and editing TikTok videos and then never share them? It doesn’t make any sense to work hard on TikTok videos, post them, and then hope for the best. Elevate your content discovery by resharing your old TikTok videos (both the popular and less popular ones).

Save time and creativity

Let’s face it: the time it takes to create new TikTok videos adds up quickly. You have to find or film video footage, select trending audio, add a caption, and hit post. You have to come up with new ideas, learn new dances, and figure out the best times to post. You are also probably not a full-time TikToker and have other responsibilities.

Instead, you can just hit repost. Reposting existing videos invigorates your TikTok without costing you time, creativity, or money.

How to see reposts on your TikTok account

On Instagram, you can see Instagram Stories you’ve shared in your story. On Facebook, you can see reposted content on your profile page. On TikTok, reposted videos show up on a reposted tab.

You can see all the videos you’ve reposted here. However, this tab automatically becomes public on your account. Your audience will be able to scroll through all your reposted videos in one place.

As of this time of writing, there is no way to make your repost tab private on your account. If you go to TikTok’s built-in privacy settings, you’ll see that you can change the settings for stitches, duets, comments, downloads, tags, likes, and direct messages.

The only way to not have a repost tab on your public account is to not repost at all.

How to share TikTok videos on other platforms

Sharing TikTok videos should expand beyond TikTok itself. Increase the lifetime value of your TikTok videos by sharing on your other social media accounts. Reposting your own videos will improve the ROI of your efforts and make sure that the money and time you spend is justified.

Here’s how:

  1. Select the video you’d like to repost
  2. Tap on the paper plane icon in the lower right corner
  3. Copy the link to the TikTok video

Alternatively, just download the video to share on other platforms. Remember that when you download a video created by another account, you need to tag their handle to give them credit.
